Admissions

Charge: Maintain the Board's relationship with candidates and oversee testing vendor's coordination of process. Specifically, develop policies and procedures regarding admissions, maintain candidate handbook, audit compliance with eligibility requirements, resolve disputes regarding eligibility; and continue to review eligibility requirements.

By Laws

Charge: The primary function of the Bylaws Committee is to create Bylaws for the NAECB, and to propose changes to these Bylaws. Whether such changes are initiated by the NAECB certificants, a standing committee, or the Bylaws Committee, they will be reviewed by the Committee for clarity of wording and intent and for consistency with respect to the existing Bylaws. The Committee will report its recommendation to the Board. A second function of the Bylaws Committee is to offer interpretations of the Bylaws to the Board and to the certificants.

Examination

Charge: Responsible for all phases of examination development, including the job analysis, examination content, delivery, security, and determination of the passing score.

Finance

Charge: Recommends actions to the Board regarding fiscal management and also responsible, through a Task Force, for securing an appropriate CPT code as the first step for third party reimbursement for asthma counseling.

Judicial & Ethics

Charge: Recommend policies to the Board to ensure the NAECB operates within the law and at the highest ethical level, review and determine actions related to candidate code of conduct, and resolve potential conflict of interest issues.

NCCA Accreditation

Charge: Prepare the NAECB to apply to the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the accrediting arm of the National Organization or Competency Assurance (NOCA), for accreditation.

Nominating

Charge: As provided in the By Laws, to nominate candidates for membership on the Board and for officers and to promote a Board that reflects the ethnic and cultural diversity of asthmatic individuals and the myriad specialties involved in asthma education.

Public Relations & Marketing

Charge:
  1. To raise public awareness regarding the importance of the NAECB and the certifying exam through the development and maintenance of a website (www.naecb.org) and other media,
  2. to publish and make available information to the public regarding eligibility requirements, summary of the knowledge and functions covered by the examination, and the examination and certification/recertification process,
  3. To publish and make available a summary of the certification activities, including examination and certification statistics, to the public and certificants,
  4. To serve as a liaison to the stakeholders through regular and timely communications, (5) To develop a marketing strategy for the NAECB together with the Finance Committee, and (6) To coordinate media relations of the NAECB.

Research

Charge: To encourage research in the field of asthma educator training, certification, and reimbursement. This mission is accomplished in part through identification of needed research, initiation of research projects (e.g., though grant writing), and periodic surveys of the NAECB certificants.

Scholarship

Charge: To develop process for the distribution of the Dr. Linda B. Ford Scholarship Fund. To pursue additional funding for the scholarship. To provide assistance to potential candidates pursuing the AE-C certification.
