WHERE TO TAKE A CLASSAs a certifying body, the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB) is prohibited from being involved in any kind of course related to the examination, either through promotion, development or execution of the course. You will need to contact professional organizations such as the American Lung Association, American Association of Respiratory Care, Association of Asthma Educators, National Respiratory Training Center and other organizations like our sponsors and stakeholders for information regarding courses. The Board does provide a candidate handbook which can be downloaded here. This handbooks contains the exam matrix, a list of review references and information about the examination. If you are unable to download the document, you can receive one in the mail by calling our test administrator, Applied Measurement Professionals, at 888-519-9901. Although a course is not required prior to taking the exam, many candidates feel they would like to take one. To ensure that a course you are taking will actually prepare you for the examination, the NAECB suggests a checklist of items to ask about and look for in any course: 1. Is the candidate handbook provided by the NAECB used as part of the teaching materials or has it been used to develop the course? 2. Are there Certified Asthma Educator's (AE-C®) on the faculty of the course or available for questions? 3. Is the organization keeping a record of their pass rate and if so, what is the pass rate? These are not the only criteria that any candidate should consider when choosing a course. They are simply three areas that the NAECB believes should be considered in any decision. Best of luck!
