Linda B. Ford, MD, AE-C, Chair of the volunteer certification board, said, "Following more than two years of hard work, the non- profit NAECB is now prepared to grant the designation of AE-C (Asthma Educator-Certified) to those candidates who demonstrate their proficiency on our first examination."

"The goal of the Board," said Ford, " Is to promote optimal asthma management and quality of life among individuals with asthma, their families and communities, by advancing excellence in asthma education through the certified asthma educator process."

The examination will be available at more than 100 locations throughout the United States. The Board has contracted with Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. of Lenexa, Kansas, to administer the examination.

Candidates for the examination must be either licensed or credentialed health care professionals, health educators, or persons with at least 1,000 hours of asthma education experience. The fee for the examination is $ 275. Complete information and enrollment is available at www.naecb.org or by calling Applied Measurement Professionals at (913) 541 0400.

Ford added, "As a special incentive, the first 50 individuals who complete the examination will receive a $ 50 rebate of their $ 275 fee. We hope this will encourage asthma educators to become certified at this time."
